Welcome to Steve Wolfinbarger’s Trombone Page!

As Michigan Professor of the Year, an ITA Award Winner, and former President of the International Trombone Association, I have dedicated my career to teaching, performing, and advancing the trombone community. In the highly competitive ITA competitions, my students have earned 46 major honors, including 9 first-place awards, and have reached the semifinals or finals of the National Trombone Solo Competition 13 times. Alumni now teach trombone at over 25 universities nationwide and perform professionally in ensembles, orchestras, and international festivals, reflecting a legacy of excellence in trombone performance and education.

I recently joined the trombone faculty at Missouri State University (MSU), where I work alongside bass trombonist Dr. Jason Hausback. I encourage you to read his bio—he brings incredible experience and has guided many students toward their musical goals. MSU has a strong, well-established trombone program, and there will be a graduate assistantship available starting fall semester 2026. Or there is scholarship money to offset already low tuition costs. If you’re thinking about studying trombone at MSU, I’d be excited to talk with you about the program and how we can help you grow and succeed as a musician.
