In recent years, our students have performed at major events like the International Trombone Festival, the American Trombone Workshop, the Big 12 Trombone Conference in Texas, and the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference. These opportunities give you real-world experience and help you build connections in the professional music community.

Our graduates go on to do great things. Some have earned graduate assistantships in excellent trombone programs like Florida State University or Columbus State University. One of our 2025 graduates landed a spot with the U.S. Navy Fleet Bands!

Since 2022, MSU trombonists have been finalists or top prize winners in major competitions—including the American Trombone Workshop National Solo Competition, the STS Solo Competition, the International Women’s Brass Conference, and the MTNA Young Artist Brass Competition (both state and national levels).

But the heart of our program is the instruction. At MSU, you’ll work closely with Professors Jason Hausback and Steve Wolfinbarger—mentors who are passionate about helping you grow as a musician. You’ll also benefit from frequent visits by renowned trombone guest artists.

With around 300 select majors, 30 full-time faculty, and 11 part-time instructors, our program is ideally sized to provide personalized attention.
